Pub brawl results in death of 48-year-old man

Detectives investigating a fatal assault at a village pub have arrested a 61-year-old man on suspicion of murder.

The suspect, from Burnham in Buckinghamshire, was detained on Saturday night in connection with the death of Dean Haverley, Thames Valley Police said.

Mr Haverley, 48, died in hospital after being treated at the scene of the attack at Burnham's George Inn.

Officers were called to the High Street pub at about midnight on Friday to reports of a man having been assaulted inside the premises.

In an appeal for information, Detective Chief Inspector Simon Steel, who is leading the inquiry, described the assault as an isolated incident.

The officer said: "My appeal is to anyone who was in the George Inn around midnight who witnessed the assault or has any information regarding the incident to contact police immediately."

Mr Haverley's wife and children have issued a message through the Thames Valley force asking for their privacy to be respected.

The victim was described by friends on social media as as a well-loved family man and father who would be sadly missed.
