Authorities have released a computer-generated image of a little girl found dead inside a plastic bag along a Boston Harbour shoreline, hoping it will generate clues about her identity.

Suffolk County district attorney Daniel Conley said the girl's identity and how she died remained a mystery.

Officials believe the brown-haired, brown-eyed girl was about four. Her body was found on June 25 inside a bag that also contained a black and white zebra-print blanket.

Mr Conley said he hoped someone recognised the image that was created by the National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children and alerted authorities.

Photos were also released of the blanket and white leggings with black polka dots the girl was wearing.
