Ka Yang cooked her seven week old daughter Mirabelle Thao-Lo for five minutes – leaving her to burn to death, in a crime which has shaken the United States.

The infant suffered up to 80 per cent burns on her body and internal organs.

The majority of the burns appeared to be caused by radiation due to the microwave exposure which penetrated her internal organs and 'cooked through' to her stomach and small intestine.

The 34 year old from Sacremento, California claimed was having an epileptic seizure when she put her child, Mirabelle Thao-Lo, inside the oven on March 17, 2011.

In a court hearing Yang said she had been holding her baby when she blacked out while working at her computer. The woman later confessed to lying about the death and proceeded to blame her actions on a split personality.

Yang placed the child in the microwave because she was being irritable and fussy and holding her back from her work which she was carrying out for an architectural company.

According to the family of Ka Yang when the seizures happen, she 'sees white light and then trees beforehand'.

Following a trial in the US, the mother of four was found guilty of first degree murder and assault.

Prosecutors ruled out the death penalty but Yang will receive a minimum of 26 years in prison without the possibility of parole.

It comes just one month after toddler J'Zyra Thompson burned to death inside an oven, after being left home alone with her young siblings in Houston Texas.
