Mum and partner charged with death of one-year-old girl

A mother and her partner have been charged in connection with the death of a one-year-old girl who died after being admitted to hospital with serious injuries.

Cara Lee-Fanus, from Egham, Surrey, died on May 29 last year after she suffered a serious head injury prompting Surrey Police to launch a murder investigation.

Following the inquiry, Kirsty Lee, 25, of Grove Close, Windsor, Berkshire, and Alistair Bowen, 35, of Drayton Road, Luton, Bedfordshire, have been charged with causing or allowing the death of a child and causing or allowing serious physical harm to a child contrary to the Domestic Violence, Crime and Victims Act 2004.

They are both due to appear at Guildford Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, April 14.

A Surrey Police spokesman said: "Officers were alerted by staff at St Peter's Hospital in Chertsey after the young girl, who was approaching her second birthday, was admitted with serious injuries on Wednesday, 28 May 2014.

"She was later transferred to St George's Hospital in Tooting but sadly died on Thursday, 29 May.

"Detectives from the Surrey and Sussex Major Crime Team subsequently launched a murder investigation and a man and woman were arrested in connection with the death.

"The young girl has since been formally identified as Cara Lee-Fanus. A post-mortem examination established the cause of death as a head injury."
