The mother of a baby that fell from a moving car has been charged with child neglect in the US.

The three-month old tot was found on the side of the road in Pasedena, California at 11.45pm on Saturday night and police were contacted.

Bishop Raymond Showell found the baby.

"There was something in the road. It looked like somebody had left something there, so I slowed my vehicle down and looked," Showell told CBS.

"And as I looked to the side, it looked like it was a child in a carriage.

"And as I got closer, indeed, that’s exactly what it was."

Authorities believe that the baby fell from a moving vehicle due to the scuff marks on the chair seat it was strapped into.

Sandra Clara McClary, the 26-year-old mother of the baby, was charged with neglect and reckless endangerment.

She came forward after a social media appeal to find the baby's mother.

She initially claimed the child was with its father.

After being treated for dehydration at a local hospital the baby was fine and she is now with social services.
