Man who pushed ex out window jailed for 24-years
A callous ex-lover who pushed his former partner out of a window, then peeled away her fingers as she clung desperately to the frame has been jailed for 24 years.
Marlon Bills, from Dudley in the West Midlands, calmly shut the window after watching his ex Lisa Turner drop 16ft (4.8 metres) to the ground below, breaking her spine and ankle.
When police turned up at the Himley Road flat to arrest Bills, he pulled a knife and tried to stab the officers before they subdued and arrested him.
West Midlands Police said his 43-year-old victim had to crawl across the ground in order to get help.
Bills had denied wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, two counts of attempted wounding against the arresting officers and two further breaches of a restraining order during a week-long trial.
However, a jury convicted him of the charges and on Wednesday he was jailed for 24 years at Birmingham Crown Court, where he was told he must serve at least two-thirds of his sentence behind bars.
The judge also gave him an extended five-year licence period.
Bills was ordered pay his victim £10,000 in compensation within six months.
The 44-year-old had lured his ex to his flat before threatening her and shoving her out the bathroom window.
Detective Sergeant Gagy Bedi, of West Midlands Police, said: "Bills has a history of domestic violence and I am relieved that the court has given him a severe sentence.
"His victim is lucky to be alive and has had to endure months of hospitalisation.
"She suffered life-changing injuries, including a broken spine and ankle.
"She continues to suffer problems as a result of the injuries and I hope that this sentence allows her to progress with her recovery."
Mr Bedi added: "We would encourage anyone suffering domestic abuse to seek help at the earliest opportunity.
"We have experienced officers working with a number of other agencies who can assist sensitively and discreetly."
