A man has been jailed after CCTV operators saw him grab a woman and point a pistol at her head during an argument in the street, police said.

Stephen Heffernan, 44, was sentenced at Swindon Crown Court to 14 months imprisonment after pleading guilty to possessing a CO2 air pistol with intent to cause fear of violence after the incident in March this year.

Heffernan, from Bradford on Avon, Wiltshire was seen on CCTV cameras in Brick Lane, Trowbridge, arguing with a woman.

He was then seen producing a handgun from his pocket and pointing it at the woman. The woman was uninjured during the incident and they walked away together.

Detective Constable Andy Henson, from Wiltshire Police, said: "I want to reassure the community that behaviour like this is never tolerated and we will do all we can to catch anyone who acts like this in public."
