Authorities are on the hunt for a pervert who exposed himself in front of two women before attempting to rape one of their pet dogs.

The man is reported to have approached two women aged 20 and 23, as they walked their dogs on the Canal Walkway at Greystanes in Sydney, Australia.

He then exposed his genitals to both women on Canal Walkway before assaulting one of the dogs and attempted to have sex with the other.

The women fled from the area and called police.

On Monday police spotted a man of a similar description and gave chase.

They followed him on foot and called in air support and a dog unit, but the man fled and was not found.

Police have since released two images of a man and one of a bike in a hope he may be seen by the public.

The man is described as Indian/sub-continental appearance, 180-190cm tall, with a dark complexion, unshaven, with short black hair.
