A man who hired a private investigator to track his wife's movements was aghast to discover she was having an affair with a young man - the private investigator's 17-year-old son.

Amber Telford (33) was arrested and charged in January for unlawful sexual activity with a minor.

On Thursday last she was sentenced to 30 days in prison after pleading guilty in July.

The relationship was discovered in November by a private detective hired by Telford's estranged husband.

Telford, who is the owner of a Salt Lake City area dance centre, developed a sexual relationship with the teenager last summer when he became a student at the studio.

The former NBA cheerleader began by flirting with the boy before doing him favours such as buying him clothes and paying for him to go to Disneyland.

Police said she eventually engaged in sex with him at her home, her mother's home and in her car.

Her husband hired a private investigator who apparently witnessed Telford and the teen naked under a blanket on the floor of a room at the premise of her dance businesss.

She later admitted to her husband, mother and father that she had a sexual relationship with the teen, KUTV reported.

According to court records, Telford filed for divorce from her husband in September. This was around the time that police say she began her affair with the boy.

She was sentenced to spend a month in jail and ordered to perform 150 hours of community service.
