Man gets 125 years in prison for frenzied murder of woman and four children with a meat cleaver
A man who carried out a frenzied cleaver attack that left five members of one family, a woman and four children, dead was sentenced to spend the rest of his life 'in a cage' in a New York court yesterday
Mingdong Chen pleaded guilty earlier this month to three counts of second-degree murder and two counts of first-degree manslaughter.
His victims were Qiaozhen Li, 37, and her children, Linda, 9, Kevin, 5, Amy, 7, and William, 1.
Li's husband, Yilin Zhuo, is Chen's cosuin.
The court heard the frenzied attack was sparked when Chen slapped one of the children.
Li shouted at Chen and that prompted the stabbing spree.
"What do you do with a person who murdered children?” Justice Vincent DelGiudice said before handing down sentence of 125 years to life in prison.
“It is the earnest hope of the court . . . that you never again are allowed to be free and spend the rest of your life in a cage.”
Chen, who was living with the family before the attack, is reported to have told the police that the place was loud so he 'argued and took a knife to them'.
