A 43-year-old has been charged with burglary after police were called to reports of a man being trapped in a petrol station.

Essex Police received a 999 call in the early hours of Saturday from the man saying he was stuck in a security device at the Asda petrol station at Eastgate, Basildon.

The force said they also received calls from people who heard him screaming from inside the building.

He was taken to hospital for treatment and arrested on suspicion of burglary.

Paul Davies, 43, of Thistledown, Basildon, has now been charged with burglary with intent to steal and been remanded in police custody to appear at Basildon Magistrates' Court this morning.
