A 49-year-old man has been charged with the murder of a woman who was stabbed at a barber's shop.

Katrina O'Hara, 44, was found with serious injuries to her chest at Jock's Barbers in East Street, Blandford, Dorset, last Thursday night, and died at the scene.

Her body was officially identified on Saturday by her family.

Local man Stuart Thomas, 49, was arrested on suspicion of murder and taken to hospital.

Thomas, who also goes by the name George and was known to the victim, will appear at Bournemouth Magistrates' Court on Thursday, Dorset Police said.

Detective Inspector Richard Dixey said: "After investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, we have consulted with the Crown Prosecution Service who has authorised the charge of murder."

He added: "Specially-trained family liaison officers have informed Miss O'Hara's family about the development and are supporting them at this extremely difficult time."

Mr Dixey renewed a call for witnesses to the incident to contact authorities.

The case has been referred to the police watchdog, the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).
