Man burned teenage girlfriend alive because she was pregnant and he 'wanted to be free'

A man has been jailed for 14 years after he was convicted of burning alive his heavily pregnant teenage lover.

The judge in the case told the court that father-to-be Eren Toben committed the vile crime because he because he didn’t want to be a father.

During the trial, a German court heard how Toben and his friend lured pregnant Maria Peiner (19) into a wood on the outskirts of Berlin, with the intention of killing her.

Jud Regina Alex said of Toben: “For him the crime was a solution, he wanted a free, happy life which he had control over.

"He abused Maria’s love for him to lure her into an ambush."

The trial heard how in January 2015 Toben and his old schoolmate Daniel Mueller (20,) lured Maria to the woods and once there, was hit with a piece of wood by Toben.

He then stabbed her with a bread knife and then poured petrol over her and set her alight.

The judge said: “She was still conscious, it could have been 10, 20, 30 seconds - she was still moving.”

Tragic Maria’s remains were the next day by a walker the next day.

Toben's fingerprints were on the handle of the knife found near her charred remains.

Speaking after the trial, Maria’s brother said; “I hope that our family can finally have some peace.”

Both men were sentenced to 14 years in jail.
