Gunman shot dead after wounding six in Texas
A gunman who wounded six people at a shopping centre in Houston is dead, authorities said.
The suspect was "DOA" at the scene, according to the Houston police department. An hour earlier, it had tweeted that authorities had shot the suspect.
Fire department assistant chief Richard Mann said six people were wounded. A couple of them were taken to hospital, while the others have less serious injuries.
The circumstances of the shooting, which happened at about 6.30am on Monday, were not immediately clear, although some witnesses have described the gunman firing dozens of shots at cars passing through the neighbourhood before he was engaged by police.
Several cars with bullet holes and shattered windows were at a nearby shopping centre car park.
The incident comes days after a shooting at a Washington state shopping centre that left five people dead.
On September 17, a 20-year-old man stabbed 10 people at a Minnesota shopping centre before being shot dead by an off-duty police officer.
