A 12-year-old Colorado girl was last week accused of trying to kill her mother after she confiscated her iPhone.

Boulder County Sheriff’s Office detained the girl at a Juvenile Center following an investigation that has been going on for a couple of weeks, Fox reports.

Sheriff's said they were called to a hospital in Boulder after reports of a young girl who had taken the confiscation of her phone pretty badly.

The girl's mother noticed a smell of bleach from her smoothie some days before smelling it coming from a water carafe in her room.

"She thought that her daughter had maybe just cleaned the glass and that there was still bleach left in it. Then she started feeling sick", police said.

The sickness passed, but she noticed a bleach smell again a few days later coming from a water carafe in her room.

"When she smelled the bleach in the carafe she confronted her daughter and her daughter told her that she was trying to kill her for taking her iPhone," police said.

"It sounds like the situation was probably out of hand before that," said area resident Luciana Cordova.

The young girl is being held at a Boulder County juvenile detention center on two charges of attempted murder.

"It seems a little bit of an outrageous reaction to having your phone taken away," Cordova said, "but I think it’s also reflecting of how our teens and our kids are so dependent on that, that they’d be willing to go to those extremes."
