77-year-old retired fertility doctor Donald Cline used his own sperm at least 50 times to impregnate unwitting women, according to court documents.

The trial heard that Dr Cline switched the donated sperm his patients were expecting with his own and impregnated at least eight women, decades ago.

Dr. Donald Cline, pleaded not guilty to two felony obstruction of justice charges for misleading authorities who were investigating complaints from two of the now-adult children against him.

The allegedly dodgy doctor is accused of being the biological dad of at least eight people, the youngest of which is 30.

The 77-year-old from Indianapolis, US, told six adults who believed they were his children that he had donated his own sperm about 50 times starting in the 1970s, according to a probable cause affidavit.

Cline told his patients they were receiving sperm from medical or dental residents or medical students and that no single donor’s sperm was used more than three times.

One of the adult children took a private DNA test and found that she was related to at least eight others on the company’s database and two others found that their mums were both patients of Cline and were related to 70 of his relatives.

Cline “said he used his own sperm whenever he didn’t have a donor sample available,” according to the affidavit.

Cline said he also “felt that he was helping women because they really wanted a baby,” according to court records.

However Cline denied having used his sperm on unsuspecting women.

“I can emphatically say that at no time did I ever use my own sample for insemination,” he said in a letter to the Indiana Attorney General’s Office.

He has been released on his own recognizance.
