Family dog stabbed to death by burglars
A family's dog was stabbed to death by burglars attempting to break into a house.
The suspects called at the property in Epping Road, Ongar, Essex, and asked to be let in. When the occupants refused, the callers started to kick the front door.
Pc Rob Guiney said: "The victim's dog, a Staffordshire bull terrier, got out through the door and was stabbed by the suspects. It later died as a result of its injuries.
"This was a brutal and terrifying incident and I am appealing for anyone with information to come forward so we can bring these thugs to justice."
Police have released an e-fit of a man they want to identify in connection with the incident at about 2.45pm on August 28.
He was aged about 30, of stocky build and about 5ft 11ins tall. He wore a navy long sleeved shirt.
The second man was white, aged 28 to 32 and slim. He was between 5ft 5ins tall and 5ft 6ins tall, had scruffy black hair and wore a black hooded top.
