A female doctor is alleged to have beaten her husband to death with a hammer after they had a sordid threesome with a 17-year-old girl.

Dr Chamari Liyanage is accused of murdering her partner, Dr Dinendra Athukorala, over fears that their sexual activity could affect her career.

The Supreme Court of Western Australia heard that the Sri Lankan couple had numerious threesomes and Liyanage was at breaking point.

She had told police how her husband was physically violent, forced her to engage in sexual acts and controlled her finances and kept tabs on where she went.

Dr Athukorala’s body was found lying on a mattress covered in blood.

The walls were spattered with gore as were the blinds above him, according to police.

A pillow was on top of the corpse, they told the court.

A mallet or hammer was also discovered on the bed.

Defence lawyer George Giudice said Liyanage was a "sleep-deprived, anxious, trapped and battered woman".

She pleaded not guilty to murder.

The trial, set to continue for three weeks, continues.
