Authorities discovered four dead babies inside a locked freezer after they received reports that an infant’s corpse had been found in a padded freezer bag.

Police made the grim discovery in Louchats, near Bordeaux, France yesterday.

Reports indicate that the father of the deceased children reported the discovery and that the mother had “given birth at home alone”.

The mother, who apparently, was taken to a hospital “for gynaecological and psychiatric examinations”, while the father was taken into custody.

There are currently conflicting reports as to whether the woman had a history of mental health.

Autopsies will be performed on Friday to determine whether the babies were born alive, officials said.

The couple have two daughters aged 13 and 15.

The worst case of infanticide in recent French history was in 2010, when Dominique Cottrez (50) admitted to 'systematically strangling’ eight of her babies.
