A deeply disturbed man cooked his family’s pet poodle in a smoker oven after a dispute with his daughter over a t-shirt.

Father-of-four Patrick Thompson (42) flew into a rage, snapped the dog’s neck and strangled it until it “could not breath” before flinging it into the hot oven as his four children watched on in horror.

Police were called and upon arrival they found Thompson, who had been smoking cannabis, lying in the pathway claiming he burned the dog "for God" and that the "Devil made him do it".

Thompson was arrested on charges of animal cruelty, assault, threats against his family and tampering with evidence.

When questioned Thompson told officers that he became upset with his daughter's choice of shirt after returning home.

He thought that the shirt’s design had devilish links and he burnt the garment in the smoker, police said.

The derange dad then decided that the burnt t-shirt wasn’t enough and that a male needed to be sacrificed in order to appease the dark lord.

His options were himself, his son or the family dog, Thompson told police.

Police officers found the charred remains of the animal in Thompson’s smoker, which was used commercially under the name ‘Raging Cajun Smoking Barbecue’.
