Michael Flaig is charged with second-degree assault and public intoxication after the incident in Baltimore on Tuesday night.

The victim of the assault has told police that he was attacked by two men in an alley behind a pub called Looney's.

The accused copper was later found drunk and covered in blood in another bar, Claddaugh's, nearby.

"Mr Flaig had blood shot eyes, slurred words and a strong odor of (alcohol) coming from his person," say the charging documents as reported by WBAL-TV.

The man who was allegedly bitten was left bleeding after the incident and the row is thought to have been sparked when the victim is said to have accused Flaig of touching a female friend of the victim.

Police are still searching for the second man alleged to have been involved in the assault.
