A former teacher at a Christian School has been arrested and charged for having sex with a 17-year-old male student of her school.

Christina Busby was arrested on Tuesday in Mobile, Alabama and she was charged with two counts of being a school employee and having sex with a person under the age of 19.

Busby, 33, was fired from her job at a Christian school called Faith Academy on August 18 after the teenager's mother alerted the authorities after she found inappropriate text messages on her son's phone.

The boy was not a student of the married teacher, but he did attend the school. The allegation is that they had two sexual encounters in March, one of which was at Busby's home.

The authorities are also investigating if the teacher had inappropraite relationships with other students.

Tim Skelton, the headmaster of the school, issued a statement on the school's Facebook page.

'It is our deepest desire to provide the best quality, Christian education for our students,' he wrote.

'We are truly grieved by this situation.

'We want to assure you that we are doing everything within our power to ensure that Faith Academy and all of our staff are representing Jesus Christ and giving glory to His kingdom.

'Please pray for us, that God will give us wisdom and discernment.'

Busby is due back in court later today for a hearing.
