Boy (5) kidnapped and beheaded as sacrifice to deity
A five-year-old boy was kidnapped and beheaded as a sacrifice to appease a deity, reports suggest.
The shocking incident took place in the Prakasam district of Andhra Pradesh in India on Wednesday, local news is reporting.
According to reports, police said the young boy was kidnapped from the centre of Valetivaripallem where he was studying.
When the boy failed to return home his mother went to the school and was informed he had left earlier that afternoon.
A girl who usually walked home with the boy said he had been taken by a man, named by the New Indian Express as Tirumala Rao.
The concerned mother went to the man's house but nobody came to the door. She decided to go in and discovered a gruesome scene.
Villagers gathered after hearing the woman's cries and soon found the man accused of the horrific killing.
The angry mob beat him before tying him up and setting fire to him. Police arrived at the scene and called emergency services.
The suspect was rushed to hospital with burns to 75 per cent of his body, local media reported.
“We are doing our best for his recovery,” RIMS burn injury specialist K.C.T.Naik told The Hindu.
He is reportedly in critical condition.
