Stephanie Amber Tillman’s baby boy died on a couch as his mum wolfed down prescription pills, according to police.

Reports indicate that the six-month-old was found motionless at their home on Christmas Eve.

The 30-year-old was found slumped on the sofa with wounds to her face and a bandaged arm, according to police.

She was also allegedly high on prescription drugs.

Tillman’s husband raised the alarm after arriving to their home in Lincoln, North Carolina, US, to find his son "unresponsive, naked and alone on the living room sofa".

The dad told detectives he didn't see any obvious injuries on the child.

The local Charlotte Observer reported Allen found his wife in a back bedroom with their two other children who were also naked but unharmed.

The couple’s two children have since been placed with other family members.

The house was described as being “filthy from human and animal waste and garbage", by investigators.

A post mortem is due to be held to determine the cause of the child’s death.

Tillman, who was taken to hospital for injuries she received during an earlier assault and intoxication, now faces three counts of neglect and three counts of child abuse in connection with the death.

She is being held in Lincoln County jail with bail set at $100,000.
