Youth charged with raping teenage girl
A YOUTH has been charged with raping a teenage girl at the historic Croppies Acre Memorial Park in Dublin.
The 16-year-old boy, who has been in care, appeared at the Dublin Children' Court today.
He was charged with two counts of rape of the girl which is alleged to have occurred on a date in February last year.
The boy was aged 15 at the time of the incident which allegedly took place at the well known memorial park to Irish patriots located at Wolfe Tone Quay.
Garda Timothy O'Sullivan told Judge John O'Connor that the teenager made no reply when he was charged today. .
The DPP has directed that the boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, should face trial on indictment in the Central Criminal Court. The boy has not yet entered a plea to the charges.
Due to the nature of the charge the defence cannot make submissions for the case to be dealt with in the Children's Court.
The teen, who was accompanied to court by his solicitor and his social worker, was remanded on bail with a condition that he must have no contact with the complainant.
He was ordered to appear again at the juvenile court on a date in April when it is expected he will be served with a book of evidence and returned for trial to the higher court.
Legal aid was granted.
