Woman pleads not guilty to manslaughter of her 11-year-old daughter
A 58-year-old Offaly woman is due to go on trial tomorrow, charged with the manslaughter of her 11-year-old daughter by administering an excessive amount of a substance to her.
Bernadette Scully of Emvale, Bachelor’s Walk, Tullamore was arraigned before the Central Criminal Court this morning, charged with unlawfully killing Emily Barut at that address.
It’s alleged that she killed Ms Barut by an act of gross negligence involving the administration of an excessive quantity of chloral hydrate on September 15th, 2012.
She stood and pleaded not guilty to the offence. A jury of seven women and five men was then sworn in to hear the trial, which opens tomorrow and is expected to take up to three weeks.
