Woman claimed dole despite husband scooping €500k compo award, court hears
A WOMAN has been accused of unlawfully getting €12,000 in dole payments after she allegedly concealed her financial means.
Lina Vaicekauskiene, 40, with an address at Finglas Road, Dublin 11, is being prosecuted by the Department of Social Protection.
Judge John Brennan was told that it was claimed she had failed to notify the social welfare authorities that her husband had been awarded about €500,000 in compensation which had been invested in properties.
Dublin District Court heard it was alleged she falsely concealed financial means. It was alleged she unlawfully obtained €11,900 in Jobseeker’s Allowance payments.
None of the money has been repaid, said prosecution solicitor Joseph Maguire.
In the district court the offence can result in a fine of up to €2,500 and a possible six-month sentence in addition to having to repay the social welfare authorities.
The court can only consider leaving defendants accused of benefit fraud without a criminal record if all the money has been repaid.
She was ordered to appear again in December.
