Trial date set for man charged with membership of IRA

The Special Criminal Court has set a trial date of March 2016 for a Cork man charged with IRA membership.

Kevin Power (38) of Railway Street, Passage West, is charged with membership of an unlawful organisation within the State styling itself the Irish Republican Army, otherwise Oglaigh na hEireann, otherwise the IRA on December 19th, 2011.

Counsel for the Director of Public Prosecutions, Vincent Heneghan BL, said told the three judge non-jury court today that there would be 32 witnesses in the trial which is expected to last two weeks.

Mr Justice Tony Hunt, presiding alongside Judge Alison Lindsay and Judge Cormac Dunne, fixed the date of March 8 2016 for trial and the three-judge court made witness and exhibit orders, among others, for that date.

Mr Power was remanded on continuing bail until March 8 2016.
