Teen to appear before the Central Criminal Court charged with rape
A 17-YEAR-OLD boy has appeared in court charged with rape of a female in Co. Kildare more than two years ago.
The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared at the Dublin Children's Court on Friday charged with the offence which is alleged to have occurred in 2014, when he was aged 15.
Judge John O'Connor heard that the youth replied “no comment” when the charge was put to him. There was no objection to bail.
Due to the nature of the charge the case will go forward to the Central Criminal Court after the book of evidence has been served.
The boy was remanded on bail to appear again at the Children's Court on a date in April. He was accompanied to court by his mother and his solicitor and told that as a condition of bail he cannot contact the alleged victim whose age was not stated.
He was also warned that he must provide the investigating garda with contact details and that he risked being remanded in custody if he broke the conditions.
As a result of being charged with rape the juvenile cannot accept jurisdiction for the case. He has not yet indicated how he will plead.
