Teen thug with 47-previous convictions attacked security guard

A DUBLIN youth with 47 prior criminal convictions has admitted attacking a shop security guard.

Judge John O’Connor heard at the Dublin Children’s Court that on Nov. 11 2015, the then 16-year-old boy entered a shop in Finglas and attempted to put a bottle of a beverage into his trousers.

He was approached by the security guard who asked him to place the bottle back on the shelf.

As he left the shop he struck the security man on the head with a plastic divider from the shop counter. A medical report was furnished to the judge.

The court heard the youth, now aged 18, has 47 offences on his criminal record including threat to kill or cause serious harm, possessing stolen property, threatening with a weapon, criminal damage, trespassing, failing to appear in court, public order and motoring offences.

Judge O’Connor adjourned the case for a victim impact statement to be obtained.

The court heard the then 16-year-old was fully co-operative with gardai and had been in the company of an adult at the time of the offence.
