Stab inquest adjourned as gardai continue to probe killing
A man found with a stab wound to the heart has been postponed pending the outcome of a garda investigation. Graham McKeever (32), of Hazelwood Lane, Clondalkin, died on February 18.
One person has been arrested in connection with his death. The father-of-one’s body was formally identified by his father, Joseph McKeever, the inquest into his death heard as it opened at Dublin Coroner’s Court.
The court was told the cause of death was a single stab wound to the heart.
This was according to a post-mortem conducted by deputy state pathologist Dr Linda Mulligan.
Det Insp John Walshe, of Tallaght Garda Station, told the court that one person has been arrested in relation to Mr McKeever’s death and a file is being prepared for the DPP.
He applied for a six-month adjournment to allow for this process to conclude. The coroner adjourned the inquest for further mention on November 23, 2017.
Mr McKeever was discovered unconscious with several stab wounds to his body outside an apartment block in Deerpark Avenue, Tallaght, at 4.40am last February 18.
Emergency services were alerted but, despite the best efforts of paramedics, he was pronounced dead at the scene. A woman aged in her 30s was also in the apartment at the time of the attack.
She was also assaulted and suffered injures that were described as non-life-threatening.
Gardai believed a lone attacker broke into the Tallaght property shortly after 4am and began stabbing Mr McKeever.
The victim is understood to have tried to flee but was caught by the assailant and stabbed several times, including what turned out to be the fatal blow.
It is understood that Mr McKeever had been staying at the Deerpark property with a woman and a child.
It was unclear at the time whether the child was in the apartment when the killing occurred.
