Shoplifter thieved fillet steaks and vodka from Dublin stores
A shoplifter stole fillet steaks and vodka from two stores in two weeks.
Ryan Thompson (20) was said to have been homeless last month when he stole the groceries worth €130.
He pleaded guilty to two counts of theft and the hearing against him was adjourned for a pre-sentence probation report.
In the first incident, Thompson, whose address was given in court as Holston Street, Smithfield, stole three Angus fillet steaks priced at €33 from Tesco Express, Glasnevin Avenue, Finglas, on April 13.
He put them into a bag and left without paying, Blanchardstown District Court heard.
On April 26, he went to SuperValu on Main Street, Finglas, and grabbed three bottles of vodka worth €97.
Again, he put them into a bag and tried to leave without paying. One bottle was damaged but the others were recovered in a saleable condition.
Thompson had been homeless for a year, his solicitor Fiona Brennan said.
Judge David McHugh yesterday adjourned the case to a date in July and said it was in Thompson's interests to co-operate with the Probation Service.
