A sex offender who sexually assaulted a young woman in a Donegal nightclub has been ordered to undergo treatment.

The Donegal Democrat report that William Friel, of Dunaff, Conmany, appeared in Letterkenny District Court where Judge Paul Kelly heard that the 63-year-old came up behind the woman in Voodoo nightclub in Letterkenny in May 2014 and rubbed his erect penis off her leg.

The victim of the assault told the court that she had been wearing a short skirt and felt something press against her from behind.

Then she realised that it was the man's penis.

By the time she had contacted security in the club the man had disappeared but he was later identified via CCTV.

Friel could not offer an explanation for his actions. He did admit he was 'overcome' on the night and when asked why he did it he said it was 'in his nature'.

The court heard that Friel had four previous convictions of indecent assault against a female child going back to 1992 and 1993.

The judge imposed a 12-month probabtion supervision order on Friel and also ordered him to undergo treatment for his behaviour.
