A man who photographed himself sexually abusing a baby has received a ten-year sentence.

Michael Perry (21) pleaded guilty to attempted rape and offences of taking, possessing and distributing indecent images of children at Leeds Crown Court.

Police exposed the 21-year-old's horrific crime after they raided his home and seized his computer. There was a suspicion he had been downloading indecent images of children.

A total of 216 images and video clips were found, and there was evidence he had redistributed indecent material.

However, the young man was rearrested after police discovered pictures of him sexually abusing a 9-month-old baby girl.

The twisted man was also found to have sent images of abuse to other people.

Prosecutor Heather Gilmour told Leeds Crown Court that Perry had accessed the images after contacting people through internet chatrooms.

She said: "He said he was lonely and had no social life and this was his way of connecting with people."

Nigel Edwards, mitigating, said: "He offers no excuses or explanation to this offending.

"He was a young man who started life being bullied and became reclusive and began living his life through the internet."

Perry pleaded guilty and was given an extended prison sentence after a court heard he continues to pose a serious danger to young children.

He must serve five years in prison followed by an extended period on licence for five years.

Judge Peter Collier said: "You took a photograph of what you were doing and put that on your laptop. You had that for your own pleasure, I am quite satisfied about that."
