A man who robbed a shop armed with a screwdriver was apprehended by gardai after they witnessed him getting into a taxi.

The robbery occurred at a premise in Artane, Dublin yesterday evening. 

At approximately 5.30pm a 31-year-old man entered the premise armed with a screwdriver and demanded cash from staff. 

He left on foot and and was observed by Gardai who were responding to the call getting into a taxi.

The taxi was subsequently followed and stopped and the male was arrested. 

A screwdriver and a sum of cash were recovered. 

He was taken to Coolock Garda station where he was detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 as amended.

No one was injured in the incident.

He was charged yesterday evening and will appear before the Criminal Courts of Justice in Dublin at 10.30am this morning.
