Pervert to be sentenced for sexually assaulting 11-year-old child
The 42-year-old man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, had pleaded not guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to three charges of sexually assaulting the girl in his Dublin home between March 18 and April 20, 2008.
Today the jury returned majority verdicts of guilty on two of those charges but disagreed on the final count of sexual assault.
Judge Patricia Ryan registered the man a sex offender, ordered a victim impact report and remanded the man on bail to a sentence date next month.
Earlier, the now 19-year-old victim told Fiona McGowan BL, prosecuting she was watching television in the accused's home after school one day when the man hugged her from behind around her breast area.
She said she couldn't remember how long it lasted but guessed it was about 10 or 15 minutes.
She said on another occasion she was leaving her own bedroom while her father was in the bathroom.
The accused grabbed her from behind her, pinned her against the wall and started hugging her again near her breasts. He touched her thighs too.
The teenager told Ms McGowan that she felt very uncomfortable at the time.
She recounted a final incident of when she was in the sitting room playing with the accused's young daughter and he came into the room and lay down on the couch.
She said he made her sit on his stomach and put her hand on his penis.
The victim told the jury that her mother returned from abroad and she told her what had happened. The family moved out of the man's house shortly afterwards.
