Man who said “women are useless drivers” jailed for two months

A REVELLER arrested for drunkenly abusing gardai told the female squad car driver: “Women shouldn’t be allowed on the road.”

Thomas Stokes (18) said women were “f**king useless drivers” after his arrest.

Judge John Brennan sentenced him to two months in prison.

Stokes, with an address at Oak Gate, Navan Road, Kenststown, Co Meath was charged with public intoxication and causing a breach of the peace.

The incident happened outside the Wright Venue, Airside Retail Park in Swords on August 7 last.

Dublin District Court heard the defendant was ejected from the premises.

He initially walked away, but turned to gardai and asked: “Have you p***ks nothing better to do?”

While in the back of the patrol car, he remarked on the female officer’s ability to drive, saying “women shouldn’t be allowed on the road and women were useless f**king drivers.”

Stokes had been in the club with friends and had “copious amounts to drink,” his lawyer said.

He had gone outside to phone somebody and when he tried to get back in he was refused.

The judge set bail terms in the event of an appeal.
