A man who dropped his trousers and defecated in Derry city centre roared “up the RA” when his pants fell down in front of police officers, Derry Magistrates Court, was told.

39-year-old Ryan Charles Doherty was spotted by CCTV operators, at 4 o’clock in the afternoon, doing a poo in the Union Hall Place area of the city, reports the Derry Journal.

Police were notified and found Doherty lurking outside a pub in Shipquay Street with his trousers “hanging around his bum”.

He was slurring his speech and smelled strongly of alcohol.

The agitated man shouted “up the RA” at the officers as his pants fell down around his ankles.

There was an attempt by officers to put Doherty’s pants back on him, but he told them to “f**k off”.

Defence solicitor Seamus Quigley told the court that his client was “so drunk he didn’t know where he was or what he was doing”.

He added that the 39-year-old is aware “that whatever the court does this case is likely to attract a degree more attention than your average disorderly”.

The offences took place on September 25 last.

Doherty was fined £400 and ordered to pay a £15 offenders levy
