Arrest: Gardai discovered a 9mm handgun, ammunition and a silver silencer

A 22-year-old man is due to appear in court this morning charged in relation to the seizure of a firearm and ammunition in Ballymun on Monday.

The young man will appear at Dublin District Court charged in relation to the discovery of a 9mm handgun, ammunition and a silencer. 

Following reports of suspicious activity Gardaí stopped a car at 5pm on Monday on Carton Way in Ballymun. Two men aged 25 and 22 were the sole occupants of this vehicle. 

Gardaí searched the car and found a 9mm handgun in the footwell of the front passenger seat, together with 3 rounds of 9mm ammunition and a silver silencer. 

Both men were arrested and taken to Coolock Garda Station, they are detained under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act 1939.

The second 25-year-old man arrested in the same incident has been released without charge and a file will be prepared for the Director of Public prosecutions, Gardai said.
