Man to appear in connection with murder of Brigid Maguire

A man is set to appear in court charged in connection with the murder of a mother-of-two whose body was discovered on Saturday.

The unnamed man was detained by gardai on Sunday evening in connection with the murder of Brigid Maguire, a 43-year-old care assistant from Main Street, Ballynacargy, Co Westmeath.

Her body was discovered on Saturday night at about 9.30pm by her daughter who raised the alarm. 

The results of a post-mortem examination were passed on to gardai who subsequently launched a murder investigation.

A 53-year-old man was arrested in Mullingar and was detained at Mullingar Garda Station under the provisions of Section 4 of The Criminal Justice Act 1984. 

He is is expected to appear before a sitting of Longford District Court this afternoon.
