Man threw eggs at garda car as he was annoyed they got him out of bed

A man who lobbed eggs at a garda car has told the court that he did it because he was annoyed at the officers for getting him out of bed.

The Nationalist report on the case involving Patrick Carty (18) of 59 Castle Park, Athy, Co Kildare.

Carty pleaded guilty to criminal damage of a garda car at his address on October 26 last year. He also pleaded guilty to possession of cannabis worth €10 on February 5 this year.

In court, Carty's solicitor said the egg incident was 'an act of tomfoolery' and the defendant told the court that he was annoyed by gardai when they came to his house to check if he was abiding by his curfew and got him out of bed.

The drugs were found when his address was searched by gardai with a warrant.

Carty was brought to court from Clover Hill where he was being held on remand for a matter due before the Circuit Court later this year.

His solicitor asked the judge to impose a prison sentence for the criminal damage so that he would be moved to Portlaoise to serve his sentence.

Judge Desmond Zaidan agreed to the request and imposed a three-month sentence.
