Man charged after aggravated knife burglary at college house

A man has appeared in court after an aggravated burglary in Cork city, during which two females were threatened with a knife.

At approximately 11.50pm on Thursday night, a man knocked on the door of a house on Highfield Avenue, College Road, Cork city. 

He burst into the house armed with a knife and threatened the two females in their early 20s, who were in the house at the time.

Both women were threatened with the knife but were uninjured.

He left the house with a small sum of money, handbags and phones.

The man left the scene on foot and a description of the suspect was circulated.

Gardai arrested a man in his early 30s a short distance away. 

He was taken to Togher garda station, where he was detained under Section 4 Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

He was charged in relation to the incident and appeared before Cork District Court this afternoon, where he was remanded in custody.

Gardai in Togher are investigating the aggravated burglary as part of Operation Thor.
