Man accused of Hutch murder to face non-jury trial
A 29-year-old man will face trial at the non-jury Special Criminal Court for the murder of Gareth Hutch, who was shot dead near his Dublin home in May last year.
Gareth Hutch (35), nephew of Gerry “the Monk” Hutch, was shot dead as he was getting into his car outside Avondale House flats on North Cumberland Street in Dublin on the morning of May 24th last year.
Thomas Fox, of Rutland Court, Dublin 1, was charged in January at Cloverhill District Court with the alleged murder.
At today's brief hearing, for which Mr Fox was excused, State solicitor Michael O'Donovan said that the DPP had an application for Mr Fox to be charged and tried before the Special Criminal Court.
In certain cases, the DPP can certify that in his or her opinion the ordinary courts are inadequate to secure the effective administration of justice.
Mr Justice Tony Hunt, presiding, with Judge John O'Hagan and Judge Anne Ryan, made the order.
