The case of a man who was convicted of raping a young woman with Down's syndrome in Dublin city centre has been adjourned until tomorrow after the court heard a psychological report was not ready.

Faisal Ellahi (34), who is originally from Haripur in Pakistan, pleaded not guilty last year to rape, sexual assault and having sex with a mentally impaired person at his Dublin home on June 12, 2013. The jury convicted him of rape and sexual assault.

The rape occurred when Ellahi lured the woman back to his home after she became separated from her mother on the street.

He was due to be sentenced last month but the case was adjourned so the defence could obtain a psychological report to support Ellahi's claim that he has a very low IQ.

This report was due to be presented today but Lorcan Staines BL, prosecuting, told the court they needed another day. Mr Justice Tony Hunt agreed to adjourn the hearing until tomorrow. It is likely that the case will be again adjourned for sentencing.
