Inmate charged with murdering fellow lag
An inmate in Cork Prison has been charged in connection with the behind-bars knife murder of Graham Johnson.
The ‘model inmate’, who had been serving a four year sentence for theft, was stabbed in the chest and had his throat slit, just weeks before his release.
31-year-old Brian Veale appeared in Cork District Court yesterday charged with knifing Johnson as he worked in the prison kitchen on May 16th last year.
Judge Con O’Leary remanded Veale to appear before the Central Criminal Court.
41-year-old Johnson had told prison officials that he planned to rebuild his life after receiving help for a serious gambling problem while in custody.
