GUILTY! Graham Dwyer convicted of the sex and blood lust murder of Elaine O'Hara
Graham Dwyer was found guilty of murder today after a jury returned a unanimous verdict that he had stabbed Elaine O’Hara to death to satisfy his blood lust.
The twisted killer who a court heard was aroused by stabbing women during sex will serve a life sentence after an epic nine week trial.
He had pleaded not guilty to the murder of childcare worker Elaine at Killakee Mountain on August 22nd 2012.
Members of her family embraced each other in court after the verdict was announced.
Judge Tony Hunt told the jury he agreed 110% with their decision and excused them from jury service for 30 years.
The prosecution requested sentencing be put back until 20 April to allow for Victim Impact Statements to be prepared.
Her partial remains were discovered there in September 2013 but they had been so badly decomposed the State Pathologist could not determine a cause of death.
Text messages between two phones discovered dumped in a reservoir in Roundwood named Slave and Master, and which the prosecution said belonged to Elaine O’Hara and Dwyer, formed the backbone of the State’s evidence against Dwyer.
In them he told her he was sexually aroused by pain and blood and said his ultimate fantasy was to stab a woman to death.
He directed her to the shoreline at Shankill on the day she disappeared and had earlier warned her he was planning ‘big punishment’ and she would be ‘knifed in the guts, and well bound and gagged, deep in a forest.”
“You will do what you are told during play and follow instruction,” he texted and added; “I have found a remote place, no one will find us.”
The court also saw deeply disturbing videos Dwyer had made of BDSM sex sessions he had with Elaine and other women during which Ms O’Hara was heard whimpering and asking him to stop.
Graphic pornography he had written to another would be victim was also read to the court in which he describes climaxing while stabbing a woman to death and then repeatedly raping her dead body.
