Galway thief calls Gardai after getting stuck in shop he was robbing
A burglar with 87 previous convictions had to call the gardai to rescue him after getting stuck in a premises he was robbing.
The Tuam Herald are reporting Tuam District Court heard that Brian Ward broke into Tuam Hardware in the town on October 22 last, setting off the alarm.
Ward subsequently became trapped in the building and had to call the Gardai to be rescued.
Defence for Ward said that the accused had led a 'tragic life' and the 35-year old had spent a large portion of his life in custody for various offences up until three years ago, when he cleaned up his act.
However, he 'fell off the horse' regarding this incident due to 'drug difficulties and other complications'.
Ward, who also caused €500 worth of damage to the building, had the case adjourned until November though Judge Geoffrey Browne ordered Ward respect a court directed curfew and stay off drink and drugs.
He also advised Ward to consider another line of work.
