An extradition hearing for a British man who is wanted in England on child pornography charges will take place in February.

Julian Myerscough (52), from Bolton in England appeared briefly before the High Court today where Justice Aileen Donnelly scheduled February 25 as the date for his hearing.

Mr Myerscough's legal representative said the proceedings will take about one hour.

Myerscough was detained by gardai on October 2 last after an arrest warrant was issued by UK authorities.

The arrest warrant was issued after Mr Myerscough absconded from Ipswich Crown Court, Suffolk on September 30.

He had previously been convicted of making and possessing indecent images of children in 2010 and received a 15-month sentence.

When he failed to appear in court on September 30 last he was due to face similar charges.

When British police received information that he was seen on a ferry travelling from Holyhead to Dublin, they contacted gardai for help.

An operation was launched involving the Garda National Protective Service Bureau and Store Street Garda station, working with Suffolk police and the National Crime Agency.

A European Extradition Warrant was issued and he was arrested at a city centre hotel on October 2.
