16-year-old stole shop worker’s glasses and spat in her face

A DUBLIN youth, who stole a shop worker's glasses from her head and then spat in her face before handing them back, is to be sentenced later this month.

The 16-year-old boy pleaded guilty to assault, breach of the peace and theft of the glasses from the woman, a Chinese national who was working in a shop at Store Street in Dublin 1. Judge John O'Connor heard at the Dublin Children's Court that the incident took place on September 20, 2015.

The court heard he got into an altercation and was asked to leave and then took the shop worker's prescription glasses, which were worth €250. She followed him out to get them back but he spat into her face before he returned them.

The teenager is in custody in relation to other charges and awaiting trial for other serious offences.

Judge John O'Connor asked for a probation report to be prepared and adjourned sentencing for two weeks.
