16-year-old charged with stabbing man in Liverpool

A 16-year-old boy has been charged with the murder of a 51-year-old man in Liverpool.

Stephen Essery was found with a stab wound under his arm in Milman Road, Walton, on Saturday night. He later died in hospital.

The teenager and a 20-year-old man, also accused of murder, will appear before Liverpool magistrates later.

A spokesman for Merseyside Police said: "Joshua Alexander Johnson, 20, of Shaw Street, Everton, and a 16-year-old boy from Walton have been charged with murder and remanded in custody to appear at Liverpool Magistrates' Court today.

"A 46-year-old man and a 37-year-old woman from Walton, who were arrested on suspicion of murder, have been released pending a disposal decision.

"A 41-year-old man from Kirkdale, who was arrested on suspicion of murder, has been released with no further action taken."

In a tribute issued on Monday, Mr Essery's family said: "Stephen will be very sadly missed. He was a loving son, father, brother and uncle.

"He was known for the love of his dogs and being a big Everton supporter. He was a loving, kind and gentle soul."
